It doesn’t matter if Eskom has the monopoly or if they are multiple suppliers. Those suppliers will anyway create the usual « cartel » and « fixe » the electricity prices to obviously make MAXIMUM profit for all the BBE involved as well as the multiple share holders. Just like in the Medical field. You have NETCARE, MEDICLINIC, and many other providers and less and less people are able to afford good medical care. The medical world is corrupt as well. This guy is absolutely blind folded. Public Medical care was affordable to everyone in the public sector before 1994. They were very few private hospitals. Now only the thousands private hospital can render a service for only the very few. Doctors in private are earning half a million rand a month on average, many consultants work and in the public and private at the same time obviously paying little interest to the public / poor people but receiving a full salary in the public sector. Instead of working 40 hours a week in the public sector, very few do that sns spend the majority of their time in the private sector as well. The shareholders of the multiple private medical entities are making millions of profit. So more electricity « providers » won’t help. It will simply make electricity less affordable for the many as there will be more and higher tarif increases frequently. Like in France, Belgium, Germany and the whole Europe where they are multiple providers but prices have rocketted up like crazy. Look in the UK where pensionners cannot afford to heat their house anymore in winter. Obviously behind that the big banks will make huge profits on the interest they will charge to this « independant » providers. Bottom line it is another more hidden face of a corrupt world. But this time more « legal » to the eyes of the public, …more « democratic ». In few years time people will regret Eskom. More and more people will be without electricity not because of load shedding but simply because they won’t be able to pay the bill.
